‘Established in 2004 to stimulate research, public debate and collaboration among academics and intellectuals on important public issues of our time ... Key to our remit is the promotion of new ideas and forms of understanding in the Humanities and beyond. To facilitate this, we organise lectures, conferences, discussion panels, masterclasses and film screenings with colleagues at Birkbeck and beyond, many of which are free and open to the public.’

The Academy organizes over a score of Lecture Series, many referenced separately herein, plus Conferences, Panel Discussions, Workshops, etc.
'The Sussex Centre for Intellectual History maintains a lively and varied events programme. We organise and sponsor conferences both at Sussex and elsewhere, including the widely popular symposia series, 'New Work in Intellectual History', as well as workshops and a public lecture series entitled 'Sussex Lectures in Intellectual History', which we make available as a podcast.'

‘CRASSH was established at the University of Cambridge in 2001 and is now one of the world’s largest interdisciplinary research institutions. The Centre has grown into an energetic research community of approximately 40 researchers (not counting visiting and early career fellows) working on 11 major projects alongside a public programme involving over 200 events a year.’

Arrangements vary, but frequently one reads such as: 'Attendance is free, but places are limited and offered on a first come basis'; 'IHR Seminars are free and open to all - advance booking is not required'; and so on. However, always prudent if you are able to register your interest in attending, rather than just turning up.
Have in the past held a Presidential Address at their AGM.
'In 1918 (the tercentenary of Sir Walter Raleigh's death), Sir Charles Wakefield, formerly Lord Mayor of London, offered the Academy a sum to form the nucleus of a "Raleigh Fund for History". One fruit of the endowment was the foundation of the Raleigh Lecture on History. The lecture was first delivered in 1919.'
