'The Southampton Branch was founded nearly 50 years ago, and has about 60 members. In 2020 the Dante Alighieri Society of Southampton and District decided to become independent but solely because it was unable to meet the requirement to conduct language courses.  New members and visitors are always welcome ... Meetings consist of talks, slide-shows and musical evenings conducted in Italian or English or a mixture according to the programme, and social events (theatre visits, garden parties, lunches). You don't need to be fluent to become a member or to participate.'

'Our outreach projects aim to inspire the next generation of philosophers and to bring philosophy into the wider community. Doing philosophy doesn’t require any special knowledge, tools or techniques – just reason, an open mind, and a willingness to challenge assumptions. Our outreach activities are focused on facilitating and guiding philosophical debate and reflection for those who may have had no prior exposure to the subject.'

'We are a non-profit organisation that hosts monthly Egyptological themed meetings that are open to members and visitors alike ... Our meetings usually take place on the third Saturday of the month (excluding August) ... Since our founding in 1998, our membership and reputation amongst other UK societies has ensured that we continue to secure lectures from top class speakers.'

Founded 1923: 'We hold monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of the each month from September through to July ... Our main meeting usually features a guest speaker and a small amount of society business. We are always happy to welcome guests and newcomers ... Some people think they can’t join an astronomy society because they are only "beginners" – that is nonsense! We are happy to welcome beginners and experts alike, in fact some of our talks are specifically aimed at beginners'.

Category Rail Transport

'The Society covers the railway transport interests of Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Sussex and the Isle of Wight, but with the most interest concentrated around the City of Southampton and its surrounding area, in the county of Hampshire. Generally, the Society's interest largely follows the geographical area, and the history, of the western section of the former Southern Railway. Subjects for the monthly meetings, held in Southampton, consist usually of a guest speaker presenting slides or films of their particular railway based interest. Railway heritage, history and modern rail transport are covered, as well as infrastructure around the region, and occasionally foreign railway activity. The Southern Counties Railway Society is for people who have an interest in steam locomotives, diesel locomotives and electric trains from their earliest incarnations, through to the modern rolling stock, track and stations now populating the current rail network in the Southampton area and beyond.'

'From high-profile lectures to music concerts and meditation sessions, we host a wide variety of events for our students, staff and the wider community.'
