'Leicestershires' only geological society, Section 'C', is rooted within the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society, beginning in 1835, and offers a year-round range of activities for all those who have an interest in the Earth Sciences. The Section was formally founded in 1849, from the in-house geological-interest group, which makes it now, at 172 years, one of the oldest geological societies in the UK. But could it be the oldest? If you know of an older geological society, please do get in touch ...'

'The events we host are aimed at a variety of audiences from students and alumni to the general public and professionals. The DMU events office ensures students enjoy truly unique and memorable experiences, from a student’s first open day right through to their graduation ceremony which marks the end of the student journey. The vast majority of our events are open to all and free to attend.'

'The Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society (the “Lit&Phil”) was founded in 1835. Every year, from October to May, our members enjoy a programme of lectures held at the magnificent Victorian Gallery of the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, New Walk. Lectures range from Shakespeare to Space Science, from Natural History to Volcanism, from Art to Astrophysics, from Banking to Bruegel. The Society also has Natural History and Geology sections. We have adopted a hybrid approach to the presentation of our lectures. They are still held in the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, but they are also streamed using Zoom and therefore available online to a wider audience. We are now attracting National and International participants.'

'An ecumenical organisation founded in 1958. Our aim is to provide a platform for serious theological debate which is both challenging to those with theological training and intelligible to the thinking lay person. The Society welcomes both new members and others who may find it more convenient to attend occasional meetings.'

'At the heart of our work are our diverse religious and belief communities. We serve them in a number of ways through public benefit activities which include charity days, integration initiatives over food, roundtable discussions, lectures and seminars. We are committed to working with communities to promote encounter, harbour trust, strengthen understanding and encourage co-operation.'
