'In the belief that many features of the traditional accounts of the character and career of Richard III are neither supported by sufficient evidence nor reasonably tenable, the Society aims to promote, in every possible way, research into the life and times of Richard III, and to secure a reassessment of the material relating to this period, and of the role of this monarch in history ... The Richard III Society functions at a local level, both within the United Kingdom and in other parts of the world, through its regionally organised Branches and Groups ... The activities usually combine a programme of meetings and talks and, in the UK and Europe, visits to Ricardian sites.'

LECTURES and TALKS2021 Programme

We have a friendly and active membership who enjoy a range of monthly talks, visits and social events ... Most meetings usually take the form of talks given by visiting nationally/locally known academics but, occasionally, we invite members who wish to contribute “short” papers to speak or we hold informal discussions. Whether you wish to sit back and listen or actively join in, we aim to provide something for everyone ... Branch meetings are open to non-members as well!'

'A community of people who help each other with their family history. It has many millions of postings and hundreds of thousands of members worldwide. The idea is simple. You ask your question, and others try and answer it for you. In a similar way, you may see somebody else's discussion and add to it in your own way. As RootsChat is a very busy site, you may receive your first response to your question in a few minutes. You will probably get several responses as more people try and help you.'

'William Roscoe (1753-1831) was the son of a publican who indelibly transformed the cultural life of Liverpool. Described as "Liverpool’s greatest citizen", he was a man of many talents: a champion of freedom for all, a poet, writer, scholar, patron of the arts, bibliophile and botanist ... The Roscoe Lecture Series was launched in November 1997 to provide an open platform for debate on topics of public interest. Today, they are one of the UK’s largest public lecture series, regularly attracting audiences of over 800 people. The Roscoe Lectures play an important part in the intellectual life of Merseyside, helping to foster informed debate, broaden horizons and perspectives, and uphold the crucial spirit of intellectual inquiry and free speech in which Roscoe passionately believed.'
