'Are you interested in the story of time? The AHS is for you. We’re a lively, welcoming society open to all. We run a diverse programme of talks, meetings and visits ... 'Appledore Book Festival is a charity founded in 2006 by Nick Arnold, author of Horrible Science, in a bid to raise money to save Appledore Library. His campaign brought our community together and saved the library, which is still at the heart of our village. Today, the Appledore Book Festival continues to thrive and has become one of the biggest cultural festivals in Devon, attracting world-class authors, speakers and artistes. Run almost exclusively by a team of volunteers, who do everything from stewarding the events to adorning the village with bunting, our Festival is a unique experience.'  Normally held September.

'The Armitstead Trustees seek to continue the aims of Baron Armitstead, who wished to improve the breadth and depth of knowledge of the people who live in, what is now termed, Tayside. He devised his series of Armitstead Illustrated Lectures to meet this end and to entertain those who attended the series also. The Trustees offer a programme of lectures each autumn in Dundee to carry on the tradition initiated by Baron Armitstead.'
