Military History Societies and Trusts

'Nearly everyone in the UK lives within half an hour’s drive of a battlefield. Some, like Hastings, Bosworth and Culloden, are familiar to most of us. Others are relatively unknown. Yet the battles fought on them all played their part in shaping the way that we live today ... Joining the Trust is a great way of learning more about battles and battlefields. Many of our members are experts in their field and are happy to share their knowledge. We stage regular talks and study days and there’s a full programme of battlefield walks, sometimes in areas not normally accessible to the public.'

'The aim of the Combined Military Services Museum is to display artefacts from Britain’s proud military history, for the education and enjoyment of both present and future generations.'

'The Department of War Studies is one of the only academic departments in the world focused on understanding the complex realm of conflict, security, and international politics through inter-disciplinary teaching, research and engagement ... We generate interaction and knowledge exchange between the study and practice of security and foreign policy. Our extensive range of events hosting world leading speakers and our location in central London 10 minutes from government in Whitehall, helps stimulate engagement with the public and policymakers alike.'

LECTURES and TALKSResearch Programme

'Formed in 1980 to maintain interest in the period 1914-1918, to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of those on all sides who served their countries in France and Flanders and their own countries during the Great War. It does not seek to glorify war and is non-political ... Belonging to The Western Front Association provides you with the opportunity of meeting like-minded people to learn, share, explore and exchange information and knowledge in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.'
