'The Chichester Literary Society was formed in January 2005. Its predecessor, the West Sussex Literary Society (founded by Irene Campbell) was disbanded and the new society formed in response to the wishes of members, who wanted a Chichester-based society, rather than one whose meetings were held in different locations around the county ... Since its formation, the Society has gone from strength to strength. Throughout the year it offers a wide range of talks by speakers on many literary subjects.'
'The Society, which is one of the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom and was founded in December 1904. It has a membership in excess of 850. The Society meets ... on sixteen Monday evenings between mid October and early March. The objects of the Society are “to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in an appreciation of Science and the Arts, including the Arts of literature, music and drama.”'
'Founded in 1888 with the purpose of bringing British culture to the Jewish immigrant population of Edinburgh. In the 117 years since then it has broadened its aims and become a discussion forum for a wide variety of topics covering every area of culture and history with a Jewish connection.'
‘Established in London in 1892 ... The object of the Society is to promote the appreciation of Irish literature and culture and to provide a forum for intellectual and social activities in connection with these interests ... We engage with cultural and community organisations for special member-only events. These include visits and talks at galleries, archives and other cultural venues.‘
'Based in the Hebridean island of Lewis, we aim to further understanding of the history of Scottish islands in their wider Celtic and Nordic contexts through: events including talks, visits, and conferences ... While most of our events are in English, the Trust are committed to encouraging Gaelic, and there is a substantial amount of Gaelic material in the various archives with which we have close links.'
'The Society in its present form attracts as speakers both academics and professional writers, and makes an important contribution to the cultural life of Melrose. The Society offers stimulating twice-monthly evening events in a friendly atmosphere ... when there is an opportunity to hear published authors and other speakers give talks on a wide variety of literary topics. These range from novels to drama, poetry, memoirs and travellers’ tales.'
Winter monthly lecture programme, usually early evening, last Wednesday in the month.

The Society 'hosts a monthly lecture series, September – May ... All are welcome to attend one, some or all of the talks. Membership is not necessary. Students most welcome. 'Founded in 1982, the Suffolk Book League promotes the pleasures of reading by bringing popular and distinguished writers to speak in Ipswich.'
'The core of the programme is a series of fortnightly evening meetings, which run from September to April each year, when talks are given by members on literary topics of general interest. Sometimes these concentrate on a single author or poet; at other times a particular theme may be selected. These talks usually lead to lively discussions and often introduce members to new books worth reading.'
'Non-profit making local society whose aim is to provide an annual programme of talks for members. We are neither a book-group nor a commercial literary festival: all our lectures are given by academics and published authors, and are always a great deal more substantial than simple author readings ... Before and after our talks we always enjoy a glass of wine together in the evenings, or tea and cakes in the afternoons.'
