It has always been, and remains today, a "Society for All".  It consists of a "Parent Body" as its primary membership with currently four activity groups (or Sections): The Archaeological & Historical, Botanical, Ornithological and Photographic Sections all run active programmes of winter meetings and summer outings to allow members to focus on special interests.'

Among other things they founded and built what is now Swansea Museum. Today the RISW combines several roles: * We share knowledge across all fields, including history, current issues and science & technology; * We have a special focus on Swansea and its area, especially its local history; * We act as the official Friends of the Swansea Museum. We welcome anyone interested in Swansea and in promoting education and knowledge to join us.'
