'An independent publishing house based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The company is built on traditions of the written and spoken word and is constantly looking to the future. Established in 1992, Birlinn Limited publishes books under a number of imprints: Birlinn; Polygon; BC Books; Arena Sport; and John Donald ... The long-standing aim of Birlinn Ltd is to create an inclusive staff team and nurture writers and illustrators who together reflect the diversity and stories of our nation and the audience who will read them. Whilst we sit at the heart of cultural life in Scotland, our authors are known far beyond, and we are proud of what we have achieved together since we started out in 1992.'

'Intended as a meeting place for people of any nationality who are interested in Greece -- her language, history, culture and way of life. (Naturally we include Cyprus too!) You don't need to speak Greek, fluently or otherwise; all meetings are in English, although we try to provide opportunities for those who do speak the language to practise their skills.'

'We aim to offer a much-needed space to exchange ideas and opinions and to debate a whole range of subjects. Salon meetings are not a series of pre-programmed lectures in which people sit passively and listen. The idea is for the audience to challenge speakers and be challenged themselves by different ideas. If you feel that there is a debate-shaped hole in your life, and you live in or around Birmingham, then come along.'

Research and debate at Blackfriars are focussed around our two Institutes: The Aquinas Institute; The Las Casas Institute for Social Justice ... The Institutes’ research is propagated into the wider society by means of conferences, talks, books, online resources, and through a developing outreach programme for schools. 'John Bowes and his French wife Joséphine created a magnificent chateau in rural Teesdale to house their collections of European fine and decorative art, ceramics and textiles ... The Bowes Museum is very conscious of its history, and the remarkable survival of the collections and associated bills under one roof. It is also conscious of its position in the North of England as providing an aspect of European art history and collecting for the people of the North East, and a starting point for the more detailed researches into related history for local people and beyond. To that end, it has instigated a variety of research and cataloging projects that aim to make its collections better known, and provide access to the library and archive via a newly built reference library and reading room in the Museum’s dome.
