Bromley House LIbrary (also sometimes known as Nottingham Subscription Library) is a private library in the centre of Nottingham. The library has around 1200 members and a stock of around 40000 books, including a good selection of materials of interest to local historians, many topographical works, and a wide selection of 19th and early 20th century novels. The library adds some 700 new fiction and non fiction books each year.’

'The Library was established by the will of Dr Daniel Williams, the leading London nonconformist minister of his day, who died in January 1716. He left instructions for his trustees to house his collection as a public library and to make it available to nonconformist ministers, tutors and students in the City of London ... The Friends of Dr Williams’s Library was established in November 1946 ... Their stated intention was to "develop and make more widely known the very considerable research facilities of the Library". To that end, the Friends instituted a series of Annual Lectures to promote interest in, and support for, the Library’s collections.'

Friends of Dudley Archives and Local History Service 'Meetings are held at the Archives premises ... on the first Thursday of each month at 7.30 pm (every month except January and August). These meetings consist of talks on family and local history topics by visiting speakers. You don't need to be a member of the Friends to come to the talks, although a small fee will be charged for non-members.'

The Friends of Dundee City Archives is an organisation, established in 1989 to support the work of the archivists in Dundee. An important aim of the group is to raise public awareness of the work of the Archivist's office and of the importance of preserving documents which may be of value to historians in future years. Money raised from members subscriptions and other activities has helped to purchase important historical papers that would otherwise have been lost to the City and so has contributed to the preservation of Dundee's documentary heritage. The Friends arrange activities throughout the year, most notably a long running series of monthly lunchtime talks on topics of local historical interest.'

'Following the tremendous success of its first writers-in-residence scheme, Gladstone’s Library is looking for another four writers to take up residence in 2013, following in the footsteps of the 2012 winners: Naomi Alderman, Stella Duffy, Nadene Ghouri and Ian Parks. Built in 1902 to house the library of pioneering politican and celebrated Prime Minister William E. Gladstone, the Library has twenty-six recently renovated rooms and is the UK’s only residential library. “We are committed to maintaining Gladstone's legacy of engagement with social, moral and spiritual questions by helping people reflect more deeply on the questions that concern them,” says Peter Francis, Warden of the Library. “This scheme is an extension of that mission.”'

'The Plume Lecture was established in 1975 by the Trustees of the Library, at the instigation of the Rev. Arthur Dunlop, to commemorate the life of Dr. Thomas Plume (1630 -1704) with a public lecture, held annually in the month of November.
