'The Armitstead Trustees seek to continue the aims of Baron Armitstead, who wished to improve the breadth and depth of knowledge of the people who live in, what is now termed, Tayside. He devised his series of Armitstead Illustrated Lectures to meet this end and to entertain those who attended the series also. The Trustees offer a programme of lectures each autumn in Dundee to carry on the tradition initiated by Baron Armitstead.' Friday evenings at 7.30 pm. Open to all.

The Friends of Dundee City Archives is an organisation, established in 1989 to support the work of the archivists in Dundee. An important aim of the group is to raise public awareness of the work of the Archivist's office and of the importance of preserving documents which may be of value to historians in future years. Money raised from members subscriptions and other activities has helped to purchase important historical papers that would otherwise have been lost to the City and so has contributed to the preservation of Dundee's documentary heritage. The Friends arrange activities throughout the year, most notably a long running series of monthly lunchtime talks on topics of local historical interest.'

'In 1824 four men called a public meeting to form a Horticultural Society of Aberdeen and some 40 years later its work was recognised when it was given the right to use the word “Royal” in its title. Throughout its years it has remained a voluntary organisation whose aim has been to “advance knowledge and encourage the practice of horticulture in the community”. It does this by: Providing lectures and demonstrations; Organising and staging two flower shows per year; Organising monthly workshops on a variety of subjects for the newer gardener ...
