'We run a programme usually of seven lectures on the third Thursday of the months of September, October, November, January, February, March and April when the AGM is also held ... The lectures have over the years covered every discipline and been at various levels of technicality. Attendance is usually between 70 and 150 ... There is often a post meeting visit to a suitable local hostelry to round off the evening. The actual lectures start at 7.30 pm and last for up to an hour with up to 30 minutes questions and discussion following.'
'The CIEHF organises a range of events each year, from its three-day flagship Ergonomics & Human Factors conference to two hour Regional Group events. All events are open to everyone, not just CIEHF members.'
Occasional lectures open to the public, including in the UK regional branches (see the Section Near You).
Organize occasional lectures open to non-members.
'Membership is open to engineers of all disciplines. We are a social association rather than an academic one ... Lecture meetings are open to all members ... Honorary Member This grade is for those who are not actively engaged in engineering, for instance, retired engineers or just people who have not chosen engineering as a career, but have a strong interest, for example, model engineers.'
‘We are a forum where we exchange ideas and experiences for anyone, be they engineers or not, having an interest in engineering. We aim to promote widespread discussion and debate through a programme of talks and visits related to advances and achievements in engineering in the world today ... Most of our events from October to April are talk based ... roughly two a month ... spanning a wide range of engineering interests.’
'Has been established for over 100 years ... In our society we cover every possible engineering topic, if it has been designed, built, run, used, or consigned to history through Progress, we aim to have an informative interesting lecture for our members, their wives, children and guests to enjoy.'
Occasional lectures can be open to non-members, with the annotation frequently something like: 'Registration is not required and non-members are welcome'.
'We bring together scientists, policy makers and weather enthusiasts for lively, informed debates on weather-related issues. [The Society] organizes an annual programme of meetings in London and around the country.'
