Friends of Bridport Museum 'We hold an array of activities and events. There are usually three to four public events each year, an excursion to a stately home, museum or other places of interest, a Christmas Party and there is also the chance to work behind the scenes in the Museum.'

'The fine façade, from the 16th century, is all that remains of the original building that now houses the Bridport Museum, in South Street. In 1931 Captain Alfred Codd purchased the building, "The Old Castle", and donated it to the town to be used as a museum and art gallery. Originally Codd bought it for £1,800.00 to house his own, large art collection. He then gave the building to Bridport Borough Council on the condition that the Council would pay for the necessary alterations to turn it into a museum and art gallery ...

'The Friends was established in 2002 by a group of people who wanted to play an active part in the life of their local museum. Over the last few years interest in the Friends has grown and it has become a vibrant local organisation with approximately two hundred members.'
