'The Friends of Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is the voluntary group which supports the conservation of one of Cambridgeshire's premier nature sites. The Friends started in 1995 and now has a membership of over 2200 ... Paxton Pits includes three areas: a nature reserve that is managed by Huntingdonshire District Council (the southernmost third), a watersports zone (the southwest corner, closest to the A1) and an active quarry that is managed by Bardon Aggregates. There is currently no public access to the quarry, although many areas will be brought within the nature reserve during the next 10 years, enabling access for quiet recreation.'
